Exercise at home and save money
You don't have to visit your local gym or leisure centre to get some exercise and stay healthy.
With most people tightening their purse strings amid the current economic climate, it might be a good idea to develop a regular workout routine that can be carried out at home.
Gym memberships can be an expensive luxury, particularly if you struggle to find the time to use the facility as much as you would like to. By exercising at home, you can ensure you stay in good shape whilst also improving the state of your finances.
You also don't need to invest in costly fitness equipment to enjoy a good home workout, as there are many simple exercises that require only some floor space or a mat.
In terms of exercises for toning muscles and improving strength, press-ups and sit-ups, crunches, squat thrusts and lunges can all be done safely and effectively in the living room.
Why not work out a basic routine and dedicate some time each week to completing it?
Sit-ups are a very good way to strengthen the abdominal muscles, but must be done correctly to avoid the risk of injury.
A standard sit-up should be completed by lying on your back, with knees bent and feet flat on the ground. Your hands should be placed on opposite shoulders, either crossed over your chest or behind your head.
Tightening the abdominal muscles gently, you should then slowly lift your head towards your knees and rise until your body is at a 90-degree angle. Then, hold the position for a second before slowly returning your torso to the floor.
The action should then be repeated, with the number of sit-ups you perform in each session increasing gradually as your fitness improves.
You may wish to seek the guidance of a professional fitness instructor or a friend to show you how to do any exercise for the first time if you unsure. Once you have the required knowledge, you'll be ready to put your own home fitness regime into action.
Walking, running and cycling are all great options for people who want to prioritise their cardiovascular fitness.
Those who would rather stay indoors while they exercise could choose to invest in a treadmill or an exercise bike, with a wide range of products now available to suit different fitness requirements.
Whichever routine suits you, it just takes a bit of creativity to put together a fitness regime of your own that fits your budget.
