Top tips to help you de-stress We've all heard about how we should be getting eight hours' sleep each night, but actually being able to switch off for that long is, for some, not always simple. How then can we go about making sure that our body and minds are willing to obey the experts and commit to eight hours' rest? One way is to rethink your sleeping environment. When, for example, was the last time you bought a new mattress? How is the temperature in your room? Are there any household noises that keep you awake?

Some of us may struggle with stress or simply an active mind when it comes to switching out the light. It is important to take the time to relax and unwind before turning - perhaps by reading or adopting some other routine. Exercise is a good way of relaxing the mind and also making the body ready for a good lie-down. ?

Lastly, think about your diet, or - more pertinently - when you eat and drink. Eating a hearty meal before you go to bed or having a couple of alcoholic drinks may make you feel tired, but they won't help you enjoy a comfortable and restful slumber! ?

Of course, there are many other things you can do to help get the shut-eye you need, but a few simple steps such as these should be the first things to consider. ?
