What is Canderel Yellow?

Canderel Yellow is a low calorie alternative to sugar, which has been formulated with a special blend of ingredients including Sucralose. It is an additional range to the Canderel brand with a new taste. Canderel Yellow is available in tablet format and also in granular format. Our Canderel Yellow granular is perfect for superior baking with sweet results at high temperatures.

How is Canderel Yellow granular different from the other Canderel granular products?

Canderel Yellow granular is made with a different blend of ingredients that has been specially formulated for cooking and baking at high temperatures. The main difference is that Canderel Yellow granular is made with Sucralose, which is heat stable, so it's great for use at a wide variety of temperatures and baking in recipes. The original Canderel range is perfect for simple and easy meals such as sprinkling on fruit or cereal or for recipes that don't require cooking at high temperatures. Why is Canderel now offering a Sucralose product?

What is Sucralose?

Sucralose is a non-calorie sweetener made from sugar. It's 600 times sweeter than sugar and has a clean, sweet taste without an aftertaste. Sucralose can be used in place of sugar in many foods and beverages. And, it works well in most home cooking and baking recipes.

Where does Sucralose come from?

Sucralose is produced from sugar through a multistep manufacturing process. During this process a small amount of chlorine is added which changes the structure of the sugar molecule. This change produces a sweetener that has no calories, but is 600 times sweeter than sugar. Chlorine is present naturally in many foods and beverages that we eat and drink every day. For example, lettuce, mushrooms, and table salt contain small amounts of chlorine.

What types of food contain Sucralose?

Sucralose is being used in a broad range of foods and beverages. Currently, the types of products sweetened with Sucralose include carbonated soft drinks, low-calorie fruit drinks and yoghurt.

What is the Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) set for Sucralose?

The ADI set for Sucralose by the Food and Agriculture Organization/World Health Organization (FAO/WHO) Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives, is 15 mg/kg of body weight per day.

How many calories does Canderel contain?

Canderel, Canderel Yellow and Canderel Green has the delicious sweet taste that you would expect from Canderel but with little or no calories. Canderel, Canderel Yellow and Canderel Green tablets have zero calories and our granular product only has 2 calories per teaspoon compared to 20 calories per teaspoon of sugar.

Is Canderel suitable for diabetics?

Yes. Canderel does not affect glucose or insulin levels. Thanks to Canderel, people with diabetes can choose from a wider variety of foods and drinks, making it easier to follow nutritional recommendations. Canderel allows diabetics the freedom to enjoy a low calorie alternative to sugar without compromising on taste.

Is Canderel Yellow suitable for diabetics?

Sucralose is not recognised as a sugar or carbohydrate by the body. It also has no effect on how the body absorbs and uses carbohydrates in other foods. Sucralose has not been shown to raise blood glucose or insulin levels. Studies have confirmed that Sucralose has no effect on short or long-term blood glucose control for individuals with normal blood glucose levels or for individuals with type 1 or type 2 diabetes.

Is Canderel Green suitable for diabetics?

Canderel Green is suitable for diabetics. Consumption of Reb A does not affect blood glucose levels nor does it interfere with insulin. Canderel Green helps normalize diabetics' diets, offering them greater variety and flexibility in budgeting their total carbohydrate intake and allowing them to satisfy their taste for sweetness without affecting blood sugar or insulin levels.

Is Canderel suitable for children?

Canderel, Canderel Yellow and Canderel Green are suitable and safe for children and infants, however, we do not particularly recommend Canderel for infants or very young children (up to the age of three years old). This does not mean that they should never consume foods or drinks made with Canderel; it simply means that growing children need carbohydrates, including sugar, for healthy growth and development. For children with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, Canderel can be helpful. It allows these children to enjoy sweet things and still maintain their prescribed diet.

Can pregnant women use Canderel?

Canderel, Canderel Yellow and Canderel Green can all be safely consumed by pregnant women in their diets. However we also remind pregnant women that they need adequate calories to nourish the fetus and should consult with a physician or registered dietician about their nutritional needs to follow dietary recommendations given by their doctor.

Can nursing mothers use Canderel?

Yes, Canderel, Canderel Yellow and Canderel Green can all be safely consumed by nursing mothers, but we also remind women that they need adequate calories to nourish the infant and should consult with a physician or registered dietician about their nutritional needs to follow dietary recommendations given by their doctor.

Is Canderel certified kosher?

The original Canderel granular and tablets products are certified kosher, however Canderel Yellow and Canderel Green does not yet have this certification.

Is Canderel suitable for vegetarians?

The entire Canderel, Canderel Yellow and Canderel Green ranges are suitable for vegetarians, however Canderel tablets are not suitable for vegans.

How can you manage your weight better with Canderel?

Replacing sugar with a low-calorie sweetener can prove extremely useful in helping to maintain a healthy weight. Sweeteners contain very few calories and because they are very sweet, only a tiny amount provides the same sweetness as sugar. Low-calorie sweeteners, such as those in Canderel, are available in tablet and granulated forms, making them a highly versatile alternative to sugar. They can be used in cooking, sprinkled on cereals, desserts and fruit, as well as in hot drinks. Canderel has zero calories per tablet, and less than 2 calories per teaspoon, whereas a teaspoon of sugar contains 20 calories.

Is Aspartame safe?

Yes. Aspartame is made from two amino acids, which are the building blocks of protein. When we consume foods or drinks containing Aspartame, the sweetener is broken down to its component parts, which are treated in exactly the same way as if they had come from meat, milk or vegetables. Aspartame brings nothing new to the diet.

Why can I no longer find Canderel Vanilla Sticks in Sainsbury's?

Canderel Vanilla sticks will no longer be available in Sainsbury's from October 2011 and there are no plans to stock this in any other stores.

Canderel Green has already attracted lots of new users, many of them sugar users who are looking for a new alternative to sugar made from natural origin but low in calories. The difference between Canderel Green and other Canderel products is that Canderel Green is made with a different blend of ingredients from other Canderel products. The main difference is that Canderel Green is made with ingredients of natural origin from the Stevia leaf compared to other Canderel products which are made with artificial sweeteners Sucralose and Aspartame.

What is Stevia?

Stevia Rebaudiana is a herb in the Chrysanthemum family which originally grew wild as a small shrub in parts of Paraguay and Brazil. It has been used for centuries as a sweetener in South America. Several natural substances can be derived from the Stevia plant; one of these is Reb A the sweetest natural component of the Stevia leaf, which is used to make Canderel Green.

What is Rebaudioside A?

Rebaudioside A, or Reb A as it is commonly known, is the sweetest of all the natural compounds in the Stevia leaf. After the leaves have been dried and milled, they are steeped in fresh water, in a method similar to brewing tea, to unlock Reb A. It is then purified further and blended with natural flavors and a carrier, which help give Canderel green a clean, sweet taste that closely resembles sugar but without all the calories

What are Steviol Glycosides?

The sweet tasting components of the Stevia plant are called Steviol glycosides. Steviol glycosides can be isolated and purified from the leaves of the Stevia plant and are more than 200 times sweeter than sugar

As well as serving as a tabletop sweetener, Reb A is also used to sweeten many food products globally, including teas, soft drinks, juices, yogurt, cereals, and salad dressings.

What is the Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) set for Steviol Glycosides ?

The EU Scientific Committee for Food has set an Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) for steviol glycosides, expressed as steviol equivalent, of 4 mg/kg of body weight per day. For an adult weighing 70 kgs, the intake of Canderel green tablets needed to reach the ADI would be 71 tablets a day.

How does it work?

You simply need to sign up to our programme to print your first money off coupon. Then once you've used the coupon to save on any of the products in the Canderel range, come back and enter your product barcode, receipt date and place of purchase to earn points and unlock more coupons.

You need to enter your receipt date in order to validate your purchase and unlock your next coupon. If you've lost or thrown away your receipt but can remember the date that you used the coupon then enter this. If not then we will not be able to validate your purchase. If this is the case then you will need contact out Careline team on 0800 731 3500 and they will unlock your current coupon again for you to re-print.

Can I use my Canderel Coupon on any product within the range?

You can use the money off coupons (25p, 50p and 75p) to save money on any Canderel products including our Canderel Yellow and Canderel Green ranges. For the Free Canderel coupon you can only redeem this against Canderel Original 40g granules and 100 tablets, Canderel Yellow 125g granules and 200 tablets or Canderel Green 100 tablets.

What happens if I lose my coupon?

If you lose your coupon don't despair. You will need contact out Careline team on 0800 731 3500 and they will unlock your current coupon again for you to re-print.

I can't print my coupon, what should I do?

If your coupon did not print, please call our Customer Care Team who can issue your coupon via the post. Just call our team on 0800 731 3500 with your email address ready and they will print your coupon, pop it in the post and update your account for you.

My receipt date is not valid, what does this mean?

This means that if you used your coupon on the date that you have entered then the coupon had expired. All coupons have an expiry date and it is likely that your coupon had expired when it was used, and therefore was not valid. Please check that the date you have entered is correct. If your coupon had expired when it was used then you will not be able to earn points and unlock your next coupon. If this is the case then you will need contact out Careline team on 0800 731 3500 and they will unlock your current coupon again for you to re-print.
